Most cats love stealing their owner’s food - it’s quite normal for them, because they’re very curious.

But some human food can be extremely dangerous for cats, or even lethal - so you should be careful.

Here are a few examples of these products that you should keep away from your cat.

Chocolate

Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are stimulants.

In cats, these compounds can cause rapid heart rate, restlessness, tremors, seizures, and even death.

Dark chocolate and cocoa powder have higher theobromine levels and are more dangerous.

Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic contain compounds that can damage a cat's red blood cells, leading to hemolytic anemia.

Even a small amount, especially in a concentrated form like garlic powder or onion soup mix, can be harmful over time.

Severe cases can be fatal.

Grapes and Raisins

The exact toxic substance in grapes and raisins is still unknown, but they can cause kidney failure in cats.

In some cases, even a small number of grapes or raisins can be lethal.

Bones

Cooked bones can splinter easily, posing a risk of choking or causing internal injuries.

Xylitol

Xylitol, an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free gum, candy, and some baked goods, can cause a rapid release of insulin in cats, leading to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

This can result in seizures, loss of coordination, and even death.

Caffeine

Besides chocolate, caffeine can be found in coffee, tea, and energy drinks.

Ingesting caffeine can lead to restlessness, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures, and, in severe cases, death.

You should be careful and keep these foods out of your cat's reach to guarantee their safety.

If you suspect your cat has ingested any of these dangerous foods, seek immediate veterinary attention.
