Freesia is a perennial bulbous plant with a pleasant aroma; the flower is grown in flower beds and at home, and used to create bouquets.

How long does it take for freesias to germinate

In favorable freesia growth conditions (soil temperature - about 15 degrees, air temperature - about 18 degrees, fluctuations of several degrees are acceptable), seedlings appear 2-3 weeks after planting.

How to plant freesias at home

Freesia bulbs begin to be planted when the threat of spring frosts has passed and the soil has warmed to 10–12 °C.

Typically this period occurs at the end of April - May.

The planting depth is 3–6 cm, the distance between the bulbs is 5 cm, for small ones – 3 cm. The distance between such rows is about 15 cm.

Caring for freesia in a pot

During the period from growth to flowering, freesia must be watered regularly, ensuring that the substrate is sufficiently moist. Use standing water, being careful not to wet the leaves.

After the freesia has bloomed, watering should be reduced.

Potted flowers require feeding during the growth period.

Freesias like to grow in large clusters.

This aristocratic plant does not tolerate drafts, and some varieties require support.

During the growing season, the plant needs to be provided with abundant watering and complex mineral supplements.

Ammophosphate or superphosphate is ideal as a fertilizer.

In the spring, when warm weather sets in, freesia is planted in open ground.

The area for planting should be warm, but have light partial shade.

The soil for freesia needs to be light, well-drained and fertile.
