American gardeners have plenty of opportunities to grow almost every plant they like - but only if they live in a region with suitable climate.

While it's not hard to find seeds or seedlings of most plants in the USA, it's not always easy to provide perfect conditions for these plants to thrive.

Here are a few examples of fruits that not everyone can grow.

Tropical Fruits

Fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and papayas thrive in warm and tropical climates.

These fruits are difficult to grow in most parts of the USA because they need high temperatures and lots of sunshine.

Citrus Fruits

While citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits can be grown in certain states like Florida and California, they struggle in colder regions due to frost sensitivity.

Growing them in places with harsh winters can be a challenge.

Avocado

Avocado trees require a warm and mild climate without frost. They are mainly grown in Southern California, Florida, and parts of Texas.

Figs

Fig trees need a Mediterranean-like climate with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers.

They are challenging to cultivate in regions with extreme cold or very humid conditions.

Cherries

Cherries are sensitive to various weather conditions, including late spring frosts and heavy rain during the ripening period.

This makes cherry cultivation tricky in some parts of the USA.

Pineapples

Pineapple plants require tropical conditions with warm temperatures year-round. Growing them outside of places like Hawaii or Florida is difficult.

Bananas

Bananas also need a tropical climate with consistent warmth and high humidity. They are rarely grown outside of Southern Florida and parts of Hawaii.

Conclusion

It's always better to choose your garden plants according to your region and climate - so your garden will thrive!
