Rats are very fond of nuts, sweet berries, meat and other protein foods.

However, the consumption of all these treats should be limited so as not to harm the pet’s health.

It is recommended to give treats no more than 2-3 times a week.

What not to feed rats

Rats have a very weak liver, so fatty foods, sour cream, cheese, butter and lard should not be given.

Also exclude potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, and sweet peppers from your diet.

The rat's diet should be free of foods that increase gas formation in the intestines.

These are all legumes, pears, broccoli, and dried fruits.

Decorative mice and rats are very fond of sweets, but it is strictly not recommended to treat them with candies, cookies, chocolate and other sweet foods.

You should also not include smoked, spicy, salty and fatty foods in your rodent's diet.

The basis of their diet is cereals; they also predominate in the composition of industrial feeds for these pets.

Rats get the required set of vitamins from vegetables and fruits.

They love apples, pears, peaches, bananas, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, and asparagus.

Sources of animal proteins are boiled meat, fish and boiled chicken eggs.

What can you give rats to chew

Rats, like any rodents, need to grind down their ever-growing teeth, and to do this they have to chew on something, for example, a wooden block or a cracker.
