If you have kids, then you should think twice about every interior decision you make when remodeling your house or buying new stuff.

Some of these decisions can be just inconvenient or hard to maintain clean, but others can be even dangerous for your kids.

Here are a few things you shouldn't use in your house to keep it convenient and safe.

Excessive Open Shelving and Displayed Breakables

Open shelving or display cabinets filled with breakable items such as glassware or fragile decor can be an accident waiting to happen in homes with kids.

Children might be tempted to touch or grab these items, leading to potential breakage or injury.

Consider using closed cabinets or shelves with childproof locks to store delicate or breakable items, keeping them out of reach and minimizing the risk of accidents.

Low-Maintenance Flooring

Flooring materials that require high maintenance, such as light-colored carpets or high-gloss hardwood, can be impractical in households with kids.

These surfaces are more susceptible to staining, scratches, and visible wear from foot traffic and play.

Opting for more forgiving flooring options like stain-resistant carpets, vinyl, or laminate flooring can make cleaning and maintenance easier while still providing a comfortable and child-friendly environment.

Open Staircases without Safety Features

Open staircases without safety features like handrails or balustrades can be hazardous for young children who are still developing their balance and coordination skills.

Falls from open staircases can result in serious injuries.

Installing safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and ensuring the presence of secure handrails and balustrades can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
