The first ants appeared 130 million years ago. These small insects are as ancient as dinosaurs.

What kind of vision do ants have

On the ant's head there is a pair of eyes, consisting of about six thousand facets - small hexagonal eyes connected directly to the brain.

Ants' eyes are quite nearsighted and allow them to see only a few centimeters.

Nevertheless, although ants see poorly, they navigate space quite well.

What amazing things can ants do

An ant is generally capable of carrying loads that exceed its weight by 50 times, but by dragging it.

According to observations, ants carried loads 14–15 times their own weight.

That is, an ant weighing 10 mg could carry a load of up to 150 mg.

Scientists have proven that ants communicate with each other using smells.

To do this, there are glands on their body that secrete an odorous substance - pheromone.

The scout tracks the prey and, returning to the anthill, leaves marks behind him.

Why do ants climb on people

Ants are omnivores: they eat sweets, meat products, living and dead insects, and damage clothing, fabrics, skin, and the insulation of electrical appliances.

House ants are attracted to the smell of sweat, and they can even crawl into wounds on human skin.

At their core, insects will never bite a person unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

Entomologists have discovered the first population of red fire ants in Europe.

Dangerous invasive insects, which previously spread from the South American tropics to North America, Australia, Southeast Asia and many islands, have settled in Sicily.

Previously, we talked about penguins.
